Week 2 Assignment
- Reading – Everything Sings Intro, Denis Wood
- Assignment – Observe and Document a Third place, present it back to the class through multiple senses. Work in groups, each student responsible for documenting a different sense. Feel free to impair a sense if it helps you focus(blindfold, earplug, big mittens). Compare your observations and create a presentation that represents the information through multiple senses. Use time, or choose another axis to plot your observations against.
- Assignment – read your fellow classmate’s responses to Oldenburg’s Third place and leave 2 comments.
- Reading – Double diamond design process
- Design Council (make sure to click through all 4 steps)
- Diagram

RecitoRide – Quick Indie Project by Anupma
I re-imagined Recito, (a project i worked in Crafting interaction class, last year) as a crowd-sourced system installed in NYC subway station where the content-consumed by the riders feeds into the Recito system. This system monitors and recommends popular content to the riders at the station kiosks. People can get the content (as audio logs/ offline reads) on their phones using ‘touch and scan’ technology.

Quick Indie Project – Somin
‘Zero Food Waste 101’ was an experimental graphic assignment I did from The Advanced Fundamentals of Graphic class. The goal was to raise awareness about food waste and inspire others while trying not to waste food for myself. I saved 7 days of food waste and take a photo of each day’s. I created icons of elements that are related to each food such as water, time, tools, ingredients, etc. Putting this project to MTA subway stations is a great opportunity since it’s where people can see more campaign ads. The trick is make it look like a gourmet restaurant ad. When people come to make a reservation, they will see what’s the ad is really about. You can see the work here.
