Week 10 Assignment

Assignment – Based on the in-class act-out exercise and your on-floor 48 hour prototype,  create user experience diagrams for the next iteration of the PROTOTYPE that you will do. The diagrams should take two different users and walk through the experience. They should indicate the passage of time and any other characteristics of the environment that change and affect the experience. If there are multiple users involved, it should indicate their interaction.

  1. Write a series of goals that you want to understand through your testing. Go back to your original goals and parameters to make sure that they are aligned.
  2. Take a photo or plan of the location that you are working in and highlight the spaces that you are activating.
  3. Set up your second iteration at SVA IXD floor let it run for at least 48 hours.

Week 8 Assignment – 1st Prototype

This is your week to do your first prototype.
Get out there and start testing.
Remember that this is the moment of Development so you should be thinking about ways that your prototype can be a sandbox for figuring out new ideas and iterating on improving on your original idea. Plan documentation before you go out to run your first test. Be ready to present your documentation back to the class. Post it under the category Projects – Final_Prototype1

Week 7 Assignment

Assignment – Define: Review all of your discovery information as a group. Start to make some drafts of your creation mythology. Create a clear set of goals that the group agrees on (bring joy to the space, or connect the space to the people moving through it…). Each person in the group bring one idea to the table that satisfies these goals. Chose one idea and figure out the method of engagement and plan a way to test this idea. Create clear goals for the mockup that state the different aspects that you are testing. Put all of this information into your mockup plan Report and post it to the Blog under Final – mockupPlan

Week 6 Assignment

Assignment – Discover: Go back to a third place from the first assignment or find a new one (if you are choosing a new one please email me by Wednesday to confirm). Document actions or review your previous documentation to find actions. Highlight moments of intervention opportunity, dream up some unexpected nuggets of delight (what if I saw…, what if I heard, what if I thought I was, what if I could…). Define users, Do preliminary market research (what other technological interventions are there for this space or similar spaces). Put all of this information into your Discovery Report and post it to the Blog under Final – Discovery

Diamond Define (Debbie, Jung-Joon, Nic, Sun Young)

Our group has explored a various areas in which the audiences would be more engaged in the holistic experience with game, crowds, energy, etc. During the discussion, we wondered about football fans with disabilities and their experience during the game. Eventually, what we will design for fans with disabilities will also affect on other fans to have a great experience as well.

Target User: Fans who have hearing disabilities and possibly for other fans who are at the stadium

Goal: To enhance in-game experience by providing visualized action or a ‘soundkey’ for the users can understand what’s going on related to game

Parameter: Using technology to make fans can experience the game like other fans such as live-streaming visualization (e.g. App, Jumbotron, Screen, Bracelet, etc), Using different tactile features

Week 4 Assignment

How do you get people engaged with a low barrier of entry, can you leverage an existing action or capture people’s attention to do something that they always wanted to or had never even thought of? How do you teach a new action that results in something that makes the investment worth it?

  • (Diamond define) Based on your preliminary research and creation myth, define your goals and parameters and post them by Friday under “49ers – G&P” category
  • (Diamond develop) Based on your Goals and Parameters have an ideation session and come up with the first iteration of your idea. Represent it as a diagrammed user experience and post to the “49ers – User Diagram” category. Think about:
    • Ways to get people engaged
    • Educating people before they get to the stadium or before they “sign on.”
    • How do they take the experience home with them?
    • Are there other technologies or platforms within Levi’s Stadium that can be leveraged in your experience?

Week 3 assignment – 49ers (1)

Assignment – Same Groups start to brainstorm 3rd place building tool for 49ers stadium (three weeks till presentation) This week you will be expected to do the first part of the design diamond, focussing on divergent discovery

    1. Use the linked articles as a starting point to find out about the underlying technical infrastructure of Levis Stadium. This is background research
      1. http://www.levisstadium.com/stadium-info/stadium-app/
      2. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/03/the-49ers-plan-to-build-the-greatest-stadium-wi-fi-network-of-all-time/
    2. Research existing products in the market that exist in a similar market (sports stadiums, multi-person interactive moments in public space); categorize them.
    3. Research your user, and group by level of engagement across a timeline.
    4. Find an expert to interview to find out more about this market, bullet point your findings. This expert should have a deep relationship with sports stadia.
    5. Make a list of actions that already are happening at this place (ordering drinks, cheering the team, watching other games…)
    6. Write 4 quick treatments of your creation myth. This is the identity or brand of what you are going to be designing. This can be total fiction, a story that can communicate the mood and should give the reason for your design to exist as well as give people the reason to connect. This could be a word cloud, a poem, a fictional myth, or a 2 sentence synopsis of a story that evokes the flavor or emotion of an experience. Don’t chose one yet.
    7. Put all of the above documentation under the category “— 49ers Diverge (research)for review next class.
